Learn Battleship
Hidden fleets, called shots, and a hunt across the grid.
Section 01 · Setup
Each player hides a fleet on their own grid.
Ships are placed before firing begins. Your opponent sees only the shots they have tried, not the full ship locations.
S marks ship spaces, X marks hits, and M marks misses.
Section 02 · Your move
Call one coordinate and mark the result.
A shot is either a hit or a miss. Hits tell you a ship occupies that square; misses help narrow the search.
Section 03 · Tactics
After a hit, search nearby squares.
Ships are straight lines. Once you score a hit, test adjacent squares to discover the ship's direction and finish sinking it.
Section 04 · Turn flow
A turn, in order.
①
Place ships secretly.
Keep ships straight and within the grid.
②
Fire at one coordinate.
Pick a square you have not already tried.
③
Mark hit or miss.
Use the result to update your hunt pattern.
④
Sink every ship.
The fleet is defeated when all ship squares have been hit.
Section 05 · Legal vs. illegal
What counts — and what does not.
Legal
Shooting any untried coordinate.
Placing ships in straight horizontal or vertical lines.
Using hit information to target adjacent squares.
Not allowed
Shooting the same square again.
Placing ships diagonally.
Letting ships overlap or leave the board.
Section 06 · Winning
Sink the entire enemy fleet first.
A ship sinks when every square it occupies has been hit. The first player to sink all opposing ships wins.
Section 07 · Try it
Now play a quick game.
Play a quick solo hunt, track hits and misses, and practice finishing ships efficiently.
