Da Lao Er in a minute
Da Lao Er (大老二, "Big Old Two") is what Big Two is called in Taiwan. Four players get 13 cards each from a 52-card deck, take turns beating the cards on the table, and the first to empty their hand wins the round.
- The player holding the 3♣ starts the first game, and the opening play must include it.
- Beat the table with a higher single, pair, triple or five-card hand of the same size, or pass.
- When the other three players pass, the table clears and the last player leads again.
- The first player with no cards left wins. Everyone else scores the cards still in their hand.
3 is the lowest number and 2 is the highest. Suits break ties: ♠ beats ♥, then ♣, then ♦. The visual guide covers every play and the five-card hands, and the table only accepts legal plays, so you can also learn as you go.

Before you play
Can I play Da Lao Er with friends?
Yes. Start a private game and send the invite link to your friends. Optional video chat can stay beside the table while you play.
Can I practise against AI?
Yes. Practice mode fills the other three seats with computer players, so you can play without waiting for a group.
Is Da Lao Er the same as Big Two?
Almost. Our Da Lao Er tables use the Hong Kong suit order, ♠ > ♥ > ♣ > ♦, and the same plays. The difference is the opening card: the 3♣ starts the first game instead of the 3♦. Some Taiwanese tables open with the 3♦, so agree on it before you deal.
Is four of a kind a bomb?
Not in our rules. Four of a kind is a five-card hand with any fifth card, so it can't beat a single or a pair.
Do I need an account or an app?
No. Da Lao Er runs in a modern browser on your phone or computer. You pick a display name and start, with nothing to install or sign up for.
What if I lose my connection?
Open the game again in the same browser and you get your seat back. An AI player keeps your seat going while you are away.
